Savannah’s Best Dance Crew Competition
December 2, 2010 - Posted in Uncategorized
Savannah’s Best Dance Crew (SBDC) is a competition that will bring together youth from the surrounding communities of the greater coastal empire. As a positive outlet for youth, the event will: (1) provide opportunities for youth to express and enhance their creativity through the arts, (2) build self-esteem and team building skills by enhancing performance and platform skills, and (3) foster confidence by building positive social skills.
The SBDC venue will encourage business and community leaders throughout the Low Country to interact and show solidarity in supporting positive behaviors of our youth. This act of community support will help counter-act many of the negative messages embodied in popular culture, which also serves to distract many of our talented youth from achieving their full artistic potential.
SBDC will have an audition for participants on November 13 at the West Broad St YMCA where the number of dance crews will be selected for the competition. The anticipated date of competition will take place on December 4, at Savannah State University where the selected crews will compete in the first round and 2 will be chosen out of that group for a final battle round of competition. A winner will be selected from the final two dance crews. The winning crew will receive a $500 cash prize and a trophy and will be able to perform at local events in the city throughout the year as needed for sponsors and other special events.
